How to Prevent Insects From Invading Your Kitchen

The kitchen is a prime location in the house for attracting pests. There are a few things that you can try before calling pest control services. If all else fails, you can call us for all of your Fresno pest control needs.

Keep Your Kitchen Clean

This is one of the easiest and most effective things you can do – regularly clean your kitchen. Pests are food driven, and the smallest amount of food can entice them. Start by wiping down tables and counters as soon as you’re done cooking and eating. Even your trash should be taken out as soon as possible because pests don’t care if food is on a plate or in a bin. It is okay to soak your plates for a few minutes, but pests are also attracted to water – and some can even swim.

Put Your Food Away Correctly

After cleaning up, make sure you store your food correctly. Pests will do whatever it takes to get to your food. It’s important to store your food in tightly sealed containers that aren’t cardboard, plastic or paper because pests can chew through those. Get creative, and use a decorated mason jar or a simple piece of Tupperware. Also make sure to have a lid for your trash can so it’s harder for them to get into the bin.

Watch Out For Wet Areas

Pests are not only constantly looking for food but water, as well. Sinks are the most obvious wet area in the kitchen to attract pests. Make sure to check under your sink, as well. The pipes may be leaking or producing moisture.

Fill In Cracks And Holes

You may be wondering how they are even getting into your house. Windows, pipes, vents, doors or any entry into your house, no matter the size, is an invitation. Cracks and holes are common for any house but should be sealed as quickly as you can. Make sure to check inside and outside of your house. Walls with holes can be a sign you already have pests. If you are seeing signs that you may already have pests in your home, it’s time to call Dustin Pest Control. We can help you get rid of any pest.
